“A film of transformative power… Waiting for Sancho redefines film-making.” - Variety

Mark Peranson, founding editor of Cinema Scope, takes up the video camera to shoot the making of Albert Serra's Birdsong (MIFF 08), an improvised black and white digital video reinterpretation of the biblical story of the Three Wise Men.

Shooting in high-definition colour, with the eye of an accomplished cinematographer, Peranson transcends the mere chronicling of Birdsong to capture creativity itself as it materialises in real-time. Aptly taking place amidst a desolate, black, volcanic landscape in the Canary Islands, this nativity is a delightful exploration of the creative process.

“Merits a place of distinction alongside Burden of Dreams and Lost in La Mancha for its portrait of an impassioned, uncompromising director who finds his greatest inspiration in the hazard zone between genius and total chaos.” - LA Weekly

Mark Peranson is a guest of the Festival.
