One man's quest to change the world (with bluetack).

One candidate in the last Federal election who may have escaped your attention - as he did everyone else's - was the elder statesmen of Australia's documentary community, Curtis Levy (the man who brought you Hephzibah and The President versus David Hicks). Levy's platform was to change the national anthem to ‘Waltzing Matilda' when Australia becomes a republic.

The Matilda Candidate is an insightful and hilarious exploration of the intersection between a seminal period in Australian history - the great shearers' strike and the beginnings of the White Australia policy - and Australia's future. As Levy turns the camera on himself and his long suffering campaign manager, Jo Smith, it becomes painfully obvious why Australians have been so slow to take the bit between their teeth and demand complete independence.
