Veering from the hilanous to the incredulous, this entertaining and insightful look at Jewish matchmakers is full of larger-than-life characters and situations.
The filmmakers move from Pearl, a New Jersey native, whose reasons for her deeds are summed up succinctly—"If the Jewish people do not continue through families, we will have a silent Holocaust, a passive Holocaust"—to the unlikely community of Aberdeen, South Dakota, population 20,000 (none of them Jewish) whose operators at a call centre are learning Yiddish to better handle out-of-state matches.
Make me a Match culminates in the 'Nationwide Jewish Singles Convention' in Dallas, which includes, on one of its many nights of frivolity, a hoedown at the 'OK Corral', with a rallying cry of "Shalom, y'all". Bootscooting has never been so entertaining!
