Prince’s rare 1987 concert film returns to the big screen for this special MIFF event at The Astor. It’s gonna be a beautiful night so don your purplest paisley threads and join Fee B-Squared for a Prince dance party in the foyer afterwards.

An extraordinary document of a true musical master in action, Sign O’ The Times captures the virtuosic genius of the Purple One. It’s testament to his extraordinary prowess and showmanship that it doesn’t need to be much more than a visual album – although Prince being Prince, the concert footage is loosely structured around a sort-of narrative of the relationship between The Artist and his main muse at the time, Cat.

Released to support the Grammy-nominated album of the same name, it was shot in June 1987 in Europe and Paisley Park Studios, with a set list that includes some of The Artist’s biggest hits: Little Red Corvette, If I Was Your Girlfriend, U Got the Look and, of course, the title track. Accompanied on stage by Sheena Easton, queen of percussion Sheila E, and The Lovesexy Band, Prince is at the height of his powers throughout Sign o’ the Times, which he self-directed.

"A visual feast and a permanent reminder of why Prince was one of the greatest live performers ever to grace the stage." – Albumism
