Director Mahdi Fleifel returns to Lebanon’s Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp to check in on Reda, the subject of his earlier film A Man Returned (MIFF 2016).
Cutting between the present in despondent black-and-white and footage of the past in lively colour, 3 Logical Exits frames Reda’s deteriorating situation as emblematic of the despair and difficulties plaguing young Palestinians throughout the camp. This Rotterdam-premiering film is a harrowing reminder that, for these refugees, there may really be no ‘ways out’.
