Generation: The Sam Spiegel Film School 2003+ Israel
The Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem has been producing award-winning short films since the start of the 1990s, and this year the Festival presents an overview of the finest work from this respected institution.
Mother's Dance (Harikud Shel Ima; 2003) Since her mother's death, Lisa has been responsible for managing the tensions in her large family. Reconnecting powerfully with her memories of her mother, and with unexpected support from a family member, she makes a bid for freedom.
A Different War (Milhama A'Heret; 2003) As the intifada rages, the Jewish residents of Gilo live shielded behind walls. Nuni has been chosen to play King David in his fourth-grade school play, but has his own battle to play the part of the princess instead.
Sliding Flora (Shibolet Bakafe; 2003) Flora has one aim: 'To get it right!' She wants to keep her job as a waitress in a mad bovine-themed restaurant, but her tendency to skew the facts and her clumsy attempts at the acrobatics required leave her floundering.
Sabbath Entertainment (2003): Rachel keeps her secular life a secret from her Orthodox Jewish parents. Tragically, one Sabbath eve, after Rachel sneaks out for a night on the town with her friends, the unthinkable happens.
