Three...extremes

[Three... Extremes] is a chilling, top-shelf anthology, featuring three short 'horror' films directed by perennial MIFF faves Park Chan-wook, Miike Takashi and Fruit Chan.
"Park's [Cut] ranks as the director's best work to date. A famous director and his pianist wife are held hostage by a disgruntled extra in a rigged film set where the director must strangle a child or watch as his wife loses her fingers. The short's tableau mort recalls [Saw] but the slick camera moves and constant mood of moral judgment more explicitly brings to mind [Se7en]." - Slant
"In Miike's [Box], the human psyche is also in a constant state of disrepair. A reclusive, guilt-ridden writer remembers the horrible death of her twin sister, whose presence begins to be felt in the real world. Recalls some of Polanski's greater moments, namely [Rosemary's Baby].
The version of [Dumplings] included here sparked a feature. The cannibalistic and gastronomic frightener remains incredibly absorbing, the culminating horrors reflecting the growing gender imbalance in China.
