“Greengrass's movie is tightly wrapped, minutely drawn, and, no matter how frightening, superbly precise… Stunning.”
- The New Yorker
On 11 September 2001, the world witnessed the hijacking of four American airliners in what was the largest terrorist attack ever on American soil. Two planes destroyed New York's World Trade Center towers, while a third crashed into the Pentagon building in Washington. The fourth plane, however, never reached its target, with the passengers and crew fighting back against their hijackers and potentially saving thousands of people's lives in lieu of their own. It is this flight - flight 93 - that Paul Greengrass' controversial film focuses, giving an authentic dramatisation to the tragic reality of the doomed journey.
United 93 rigorously avoids melodrama and excess, instead opting for accuracy and realism, undescored by actual military defence officers and air traffic controllers appearing in the film as themselves.
“This is a masterful and heartbreaking film, and it does honor to the memory of the victims.” - Chicago Sun-Times
