One weekend in November 1971, blues freak Link Wyler and his buddies from the Gunsmoke television crew gave in to temptation...
They bolted to Hollywood during a production hiatus to film blues legends Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, Big Joe Turner and George “Harmonica” Smith who were then barnstorming the US Pacific northwest with their respective bands.
Captured by Wyler's 16mm camera crew in Gunsmoke Blues for the first time ever are the best of those live performances. Intercut with stage footage are candid and frequently amusing conversational pieces between the performers, shot while shuttling between their gigs. This is homespun blues in its grittiest, most vital form performed by those who give the blues its soul. The only fans who will be disappointed are those who miss out.
