“Von Trotta's spirited direction is as lively as the subject matter, attesting that this pioneer of women's cinema has lost none of her considerable powers.” - Toronto Film Festival German iconoclast and collaborator of Fassbinder and Schlöndorff (Ulzhan, this year's MIFF), Margarethe von Trotta, unfurls an unsettling tale of obsession, family secrets and multiple personalities. After a torrid sexual liaison with a woman at a hotel, a perplexed Robert stumbles across her again at a law firm, although she has no recollection of their previous meeting. Totally smitten, he wants to know more. He meets her family, which includes the despotic wheelchair-bound father (Armin Mueller-Stahl) and, the more he knows, the more dangerous his life becomes. From the family farm to the kasbahs of Morocco, Robert pursues his femme fatale.
