Deep Water plumbs the fascinating depths of the first round-the-world solo yacht race, charting the determination, deceit and delusions of the participants. With his marine electronics business ailing, 36 year-old Donald Crowhurst decides to gamble his home with a single-handed, round-the-world yacht race, leaving his wife and young children behind for a voyage of more than nine months. Crowhurst's boat begins to fall apart within weeks of commencing his voyage and, faced with financial ruin if he turns back, he concocts an inspired plan that may see him yet win the race. Using the sailors' journals, tape recordings and16mm self-shot footage, Deep Water constructs a fascinating story of hubris on the high seas.
