In Southern Lebanon, beneath a crumbling crusader fortress, Beaufort Castle marks a spot that has seen hundreds of years of conflict. Beaufort was held by Israel from the early 80s with the last Israeli forces pulled out in 2000. Although the fort was subjected to a barrage of Hezbollah rockets, the Israeli government refused to recall their soldiers until a public outcry forced them to do so. In Wasted, filmmaker Nurit Kedar interviews the Israeli soldiers who were part of the final occupation of Beaufort Castle. Going behind the image of soldier as hero, which has been an integral part of Israeli society since its inception, Kedar questions the men who served there, producing a gritty, no-holds-barred account of the reality of war.
