"By far the most punk movie ever made." - Richard Hell, punk legend

Banned in France for its daring portrayal of alienated youth - and called a masterpiece by the likes of Francois Truffaut - The Devil, Probably was one of Robert Bresson's most prescient films, in its depiction of aimless, disaffected urban youth.

A young man seeks meaning in politics, religion and psychotherapy but, soured beyond salvation by the industrialised consumer society, opts for another path.

Animated by an instinctive feeling for post-1968 French bohemia, Bresson's penultimate film was a multiple award-winner at the 1977 Berlin Film Festival.

"Expresses the malaise of our time more profoundly and more magnificently than any work of art in any medium." - Variety
