O'HORTEN (2008) [feature]

Norway (MIFF 2008 , International Panorama)
Director: Bent Hamer

“Bent Hamer's unique blend of absurdist humour and aching melancholy has never worked better than in O'Horten.” - Screen Daily

Railway driver Odd Horten, played by veteran actor Bard Owe, is settled into a lifestyle of comfortable routines, but as he faces retirement, everything is sent awry - starting with his retirement party where he is locked out of a friend's apartment.

Undershot with wistful sadness amid the comedy, O' Horten deals with the struggle of identity that happens when leaving behind a professional career and contemplating old age.

“As the train leaves the station without Odd Horten onboard, he realises that the way ahead is a journey without printed timetables and well-known stops. Horten has become a pensioner and the platform doesn't feel safe to stand on anymore.” - filmmaker Bent Hamer
