This puppet film is a lively and effective parody of the false romanticism and shoddy adventure stories characteristic of Hollywood's fifth-rate Westerns. Jiri Trnka is one of the leading producers of puppet films in Europe, his work including both short films, such as the Song of the Prairie and full-length productions such as The Emperor's Nightingale and The Story of the Contrabass, both produced for the Czechoslovak State Film.
