LUCIA

ln 1895, the Cuban people revolted
against Spain. ln |933 they revolted
against a dictator. Then in thc
Sixties came Fidel. Lucia is a different
heroine in each of three moments
in Cuba`s- liberation struggle.
'l`he first Lucia. more concerned with
love than revolt, appears in a fiery
and romantic setting. The second
takes up with a young revolutionary
through love and commitment. Her
setting is one of violence. police
clashes. and the lives of actual
revolutionaries. The third Lucia has
a bucolic setting of folksy humour
and the Latin family traditions that
persisted in the interior during the
early days of Castro`s regime.
