Black on White

A selection of about 200 illustrations are used for this survey of cartoon and caricature, in Britain over the past 250 years. The film chiefly concentrates on Hogarth, the scurrilous cartoons of Gillray with their assault on Napoleon, the Victorian cartoonists Cruick-shank and du Marrier and the modern school.
