THE CIRCLE

A young Portuguese woman has problems with her marriage, and leaves her husband after being beaten for infidelity. She becomes the mistress of an American airline worker, who puts her up in an apartment. Still unsatisfied, she becomes a model and has an affair with a Portuguese photographer, whom she leaves to become involved with a petty smuggler who was once a revolutionary.

Soon, she finds there are more problems for a "liberated" woman than just men.

Well-played and directed with taste, though as yet, the crisp surety and ease is not entirely there, it does show an interesting new director in Antonio da Cunha Telles who should be heard from at future festivals.
