Wellington's headquarters still stand m the peaceful village of Waterloo; Napoleon's army tent, swords, flags are on display in the museum where visitors are shepherded past wax figures, paintings, firearms, and even skeletons collected from the fields. The camera takes in the silent, brooding landscape, then turns to the painted war scenes to re-create the agony of the battle in the museum, indifferent visitors stroll past gaping skulls - the battle seems only real to the giant trees which were nourished by the blood of the fallen soldiers. . .
