Director-producer Adrian Cowell spent two years on an expedition into hitherto unexplored areas of the Amazon, in an effort to make contact with the Kreen-Akrore Indians, one of the few remaining tribes that has had no contact with the outside world.
The film provides a complex examination, not only of the expedition itself, but also questions the morality of tainting the ways of a savage but "pure" race, with the ways of materialistic civilisation.
Artistically the film was immaculate and highly absorbing; the jungle is a telementarian's paradise with its wealth of weird and wonderful foliage and atmospheric sound effects. But the programme's strength is in its relevance to the ethics of progress in general.
