Albert Camus joined the French resistance movement and, in 1945, became the editor of "Combat". Trained in philosophy, he preached rebellion against the absurdity of human life. This film does not try to present a biography: it examines the settings which were familiar to Camus, whilst making reference to the man's works more than to the man himself. The film also strives to pin down the human background — those men and women whom Camus watched going about their lives against the unspectacular background of his youthful years and whom he described with great perception but also with an immense feeling of pity.
