Sudbury is the site of the world's largest nickel deposit, and 160,000 people live in this city whose life is determined by the rhythm of the world nickel market and one company, Inco. Inco Metals Company, a major operating unit of Inco Ltd, is the world's leading producer of primary nickel and a substantial producer of copper and precious metals.

"Well, that comes back to Inco's attitude: on the bottom line, all they look at is dollars. They don't give a damn about a guy who is retiring. All they see is, well this guy is young and we're going to have to pay him a pension if he lives for a long time. Let's keep him here for as long as we can and the longer he works here, it's been proven that the sooner they die. So we won't have to pay a pension that much. That's how they work it."

On September 15, 1978, the 11,700 men and 30 women who work at Inco voted to strike. On July 1, 1980, the women of Wives Supporting the Strike voted unanimously to release A Wive's Tale. From these women, we have learnt a great deal and
shared many remarkable moments. We have much to thank them for.
