By day, Raymond is just another teenager surviving the South Bronx ghetto. But by night, he paints subway trains as "Zoro", a legendary lone graffiti artist whose identity remains a mystery — even to his friends. Raymond loves Rose, or "Lady Bug". the leader of a rival graffiti gang who are the current "darlings" of New York's media. His relationship in ruins, Raymond turns for help to "Phade", the prince of New York's rap and breakdance scene. But "Phade" is also being courted by a 'straight' journalist, intent on selling Zoro's art to the yuppie art galleries of Manhattan. Raymond fights against this sell-out, and accepts Rose's challenge to promote a joyous rap/jam/breakdance party in a Lower East Side amphitheatre. Set among the Dresden-like ruins of the South Bronx and the Lower East Side. WILD STYLE is the real thing — and perhaps the closest New York will come to an indigenous.
