You and Me, acclaimed by critics at the Venice Film Festival, is the third film directed by 34-year-old Larissa Shepitko, whose previous works are Heat (1963) and Wings (1966).

Piotr is a reasonably successful, middle-aged brain surgeon, who, on the day after his divorce, abandons his research practice and sets out on a journey through Russia, in search of some meaning for himself and for what he is doing. He boards a train headed for Siberia, where he hopes to rediscover something of the youth and idealism which seem to have eluded him over the passing years. We relive the past with him through a series of flashbacks, and we observe him arriving at a tentative appreciation of what faces him in the future.
