SINBAD

Sinbad is a nineteenth century Hungarian poet whose work is his own life. In a series of reminiscences, Zoltan Huszarik follows through the love affairs of this artist, whose poetry echoes lohn Donne's passion. The photography lingers on landscapes, towns, sun-drenched streets and picks up the sensuous detail of flowers and even food.

The film's visual brilliance comes in part from Huszarik's experience as a painter and scene designer. He sets the tone and mood also through the music, which is largely Mozart. But the poet's own reflections on his life ironically point up the apparently romantic photography. Sinbad's intense and transient love affairs reflect a sharply intelligent and passionate view of life.
