Chaim Pupko, a Yiddish writer married to a woman with a beard, invests in the stock market and becomes rich. Pupko wants Isaac Singer to write about him, but Singer refuses, because Pupko bribes critics. Pupko becomes very ill, and' Mrs. Pupko arrives for a formidable confrontation with Singer. Singer moves in and out of his own short story in the film.
