The domestic architecture, interior furnishings and household objects of the Thirties in England, reveal the taste at different levels of society.

Aiming to combat the Depression by increasing exports, manufacturers employed Graham Sutherland, Ben Nicholson, Mark Gertler to design wallpapers, textiles, chocolate boxes - but the public had to be educated to accept the modern trends. The film is an account of the debate that raged throughout the decade, and quotes such authorities as Nikolaus Pevsner, Le Corbusier, Raymond Mortimer, and many others.
