The theme of Paul Cox's fourth feature film is the distress that lies at the centre of modern civilization a world without love traces a week in the marriage of Robert and Elizabeth, he is an ambitious journalist, she a loving mother, but both occupations function more as a refuge than a means for growth.

When Elizabeth becomes aware of her unfulfilment in her relationship with Robert, she draws closer to her daughter, Dani But she still has to find a solution to her disintegrating marriage.

The presentation of the film at the Festival constitutes the world premiere of Inside Looking Out.
