Harry Whitehouse is the last Principal Keeper of Bardsey Lighthouse, on the North Wales coast. The lighthouse is scheduled for automation. In chronicling his departure the film also discusses the erosion of an ancient island community by modern-day values and circumstances. If lighthouses disappear, the film argues, do their potent emotional and imaginary qualities also vanish in favour of a more efficient reasoning?
