Ma runs a hamburger stall outside Melbourne's Flinders Street Station. Life at Ma's uses cinema verite with a personal touch from the filmmaker to depict one night at the hamburger stall.

The camera situates itself with Ma looking out upon the passing customers who line up for both food and banter — a study of both Ma and the ritual of take away food.

The Hamburger Caravan becomes an island in the sea of waifs who pass by in the early hours, with Ma providing both a critique and support for her often drunk and maudlin clients.-(DN)
