Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase leads us through a vibrant and amazing art history lesson: we move through the many important schools of modern art to view some 55 paintings by major artists. Each image is animated to transform into another, where the idiosyncratic brush strokes of each individual painter have been recreated. Van Gogh, Gaugin, Munch, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Magritte, Francis Bacon, Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Philip Guston, to name just a few. Gratz originated a unique form of animation known as "clay painting", and has utilised this technique to create the fluid transitions from image to image in her homage to major painters of the twentieth century.
