Pratibha Parmar (Khush, A Place Of Rage) joins with author Alice Walker (The Color Puiple, Possessing The Secret Of Joy) in a moving exploration of the cultural and political issues surrounding the practice of female genital mutilation.

Alice Walker presents interviews with women from Senegal, the Gambia, the United States and England who have been involved in this brutal practice. Interspersed with Walker's personal reflections on the subject and a symbolic, mesmerising dance performance, Warrior Marks gives voice to women who have undergone mutilation, as well as to those who are involved in performing the operation and those who are actively campaigning against its continuation.

Warrior Marks pushes beyond revealing the horrific statistics and personal traumas of mutilated women. It engages in questions of cultural and national identities, sexuality and human rights.

For Alice Walker, the mutilation of female genitals is an issue that reaches far beyond those it directly affects. For her, it is "at the root of the domination of women the world over and the most brutal suppression of female sexuality that exists".

Engaging, passionate and inspiring, Warrior Marks powerfully documents a critically important and difficult contemporary issue.
