Before they put on the wrong trousers, Wallace and Gromit were building a rocket to the moon - before lunch. Of course this requires extensive care, along with cups of tea and plenty of cream crackers. While the rocket plans are flawed, A Grand Day Out definitely launched both Nick Park's career and that of the dim-witted duo, the daffy Wallace and his rocket-scientist canine companion Gromit.

Started by Park while still a student at the NFTS, this ambitious project was finally completed years later with the support of Aardman. Subsequently it won a British Academy Award in 1990 and picked up an Oscar nomination the same year (only to be pipped by Creature Comforts!).
