The lyrical and spare storytelling that Makhmalbaf applied in Gabbeh (MIFF 1996) is utilised again to tell another personal story, this time it is the director's own, told from two different points of view. Blending the present with the past, and fusing reality and remembrances with recreations, Makhmalbaf and an ex-policeman come to a better understanding of a real life incident they were both involved in 20 years previous. Back then, Makhmalbaf was an idealistic young man, ready to save the world; the policemen, a diligent officer in love with a young woman - naive and romantic. Using actors to portray their younger selves, the director and the policeman recreate the circumstances that led to Makhmalbaf's desperate attack on the officer and his subsequent arrest, in doing so, they alsc discover a few things about themselves.
