In just twelve months of beautifully edited archival footage, Bill Morrison constructs a sparse and poignant narrative to remind us of how powerfully cinema taught us to see the world afresh. The result is an essay on the origins of cinema, birth and creation, desire, longing and loss, history, memory and dreams - fragments of time stored on paper and celluloid. The apparent simplicity belies a complex structure of ideas economically told through some of the earliest moving images, perfectly matched with voice and music to produce a dense, exhilarating and richly patterned documentary of great psychological and emotional power.
