BLACK JACK (1997) [Feature]

Japan (MIFF 1998 , Animagic)
Director: Osamu Dezaki

Black Jack is the long-awaited feature-length animation of Tezuka Osamu's (Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion) classic comic book of the same name. When a group of mysterious 'superhumans' suddenly come down with a debilitating illness that robs them of their power, Black Jack (a reclusive medical genius) is hesitantly drawn into a web of corporate conspiracies and human biological experiments of global proportions. As paranoid as The X-Files, Black Jack is an animated web of deceit and thrills. Brilliant colour treatments reinforce the dark layers of mood and texture.

Osamu Dezaki's films include The Professional Golgo 13 (1983). Black Jack was nominated for the 1998 International Fantasy Film Award.
