"Theatrical wizard Julie Taymor strides boldly into the feature film arena with Titus and emerges with victory. Gutsily grappling with one of Shakespeare's least performed and most gruesomely melodramatic plays, the lauded Broadway director makes this wild tale of a savage cycle of revenge in imperial Rome accessible and exceedingly vivid."—Variety

A star-studded epic, this towering production documents the bloody vengeance that Goth Queen Tamora (Jessica Lange) wreaks upon Roman general Titus Andromcus (Anthony Hopkins) for killing her son. Julie Taymor's film challenges even the most excessive and graphic cinematic spectacles perpetrated by the likes of Ken Russell and Peter Greenaway, even giving Fellini's Satyricon a run for its money.

From gorgeous red and black leather uniforms and stark modernistic architecture to orgies that surpass DeMille's Sign of the Cross for pure gaudiness and vibrancy. Titus is exceptional. The cast are required to traverse the entire spectrum of human emotion (it's Shakespeare after all) and come through shining... if not a little bloodstained.
