SAVING GRACE

Grace (Brenda Blethyn, Secrets and Lies [MIFF 1996], Utile Voice) has been left a lovely manor house on the Cornish coast by her recently deceased husband. Unfortunately, she has also been bequeathed a hefty debt and if she doesn't come up with a quick solution, her dream house will slip through her green thumbs'. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Matthew, (Craig Ferguson, Mr. Wick from TV's The Drew Carey Show) her soon-to-be-unemployed gardener, suggests she use her horticultural prowess to make some money. The unlikely pair hatch a bold scheme to convert Grace's orchid hothouse into an indoor marijuana farm. Soon, the town, filled with off-the-wall eccentrics, is admiring the dazzling nightly light show at Grace's property. However, with debt collectors, hoodlums and an inquisitive police chief catching up with them, the scene is set for an outrageous finale. With outstanding performances—Blethyn shines again—and a sparkling screenplay, this spirited British comedy will have you laughing all the way.
