What ever happened to Gerry Humphrys? This is teh question asked and answered in Nigel Buesst's tribute to a great lost figure in Australian music. Humphrys is best remembered as front man for The Loved Ones, an international pop sensation in the 60s for their hits The Loved One and Ever Lovin' Man. The former track was revived by INXS and once more became a million-seller. The Loved Ones' combination of sassy lyrics, grubby R&B and distinctly Aussie attitude propelled them to stardom but they were far from the short lived phenomenon many thought. Humphrys had sailed south from the UK a decade prior and established himself as one of the most exciting and eccentric identities on Melbourne's then vital Jazz scene. Buesst's interviews with band members, veteran jazzbos and fans, along with rare archival footage, pieces together the secret history of an innovator whose legacy was felt long after his departure. Through the late 60s and early 70s Sunbury era, Humphrys tried to keep pace with musical developments but eventually disappeared almost overnight, returning to his native England. Part mystery and part history.
