Nang Nak is based on a Thai true story of a beloved wife whose loyalty to her husband is legendary. It is believed that her devotion could not be extinguished by her death. In Nonzee Nimibutr's exceptional film, Nang Nak's husband, Mak, departs for war, leaving his pregnant wife to care for herself. Seriously injured in battle, he returns after a year to find his wife and baby warmly welcoming his homecoming. Life returns to normal. Slowly, however, Mak realises that things are not as they seem. The village is virtually decimated by cholera and the survivors attempt to alert Mak to the mystery behind his wife and child's immunity. Hugely successful in its native country—becoming the highest-grossing Thai film ever—Nang Nak is a superbly crafted, stunningly photographed film. The cast perform with great physical conviction in a triumph for South-East Asian cinema.
