In a mysterious netherworld, a group of people, including Holocaust survivor and underground casino owner Sam (Max Von Sydow), and his right-hand man, bank robber Federico, possess the gift of being uncommonly lucky. When Federico decides to break away from his boss, Sam strips him of his 'gift', exiling him to the world of the luckless.
