Provocative filmmaker Želimir Žilnik returns with a wry look at the social turmoil plaguing Serbia.

Žilnik (Kenedi is Getting Married, MIFF 08) weaves an intricate picture of Serbia' s deteriorating socio-economic landscape, which has slipped into chaos since capitalism replaced state socialism.

With the arrival of the US vice-president and a Russian business tycoon imminent, Belgrade workers don American football gear to face off against their bosses, who are busy looting their own factories.

A playful mixture of fiction and documentary, The Old School of Capitalism sees Žilnik depict the recent class chaos and worker uprisings in Belgrade by using actual workers to play themselves in re-staged scenes.

“A complex and yet lighthearted portrait of the consequences of globalised capitalism for a country that has only just joined in the game.” - Rotterdam Film Festival
