“An absorbing coming-of-age drama… takes its place among Wang Xiaoshuai's finest films.” - Variety

The harsh realities of the Chinese Cultural Revolution enter 11-year-old Wang Han's life when a murder is committed in his small rural town. After encountering the fugitive teenage suspect, Han's view of the world is changed forever and he must decide what to tell his friends and family.

Based on director Wang Xiaoshuai's memories of an unsettling chapter in his childhood, 11 Flowers is a personal, humanist story about a child facing fear and the consequences of his actions, set against the backdrop of ideological upheaval.

A previous winner at Berlin, for Beijing Bicycle, and Cannes, for Shanghai Dreams (MIFF 2005), Wang Xiaoshuai invests 11 Flowers - which was selected for the Venice and Toronto film festivals - with a similarly sensitive portrayal of boyhood.

MIFF recommends age 14+ (No person under the age of 15 years shall be admitted to the screenings unless in the company of a parent or adult guardian)
