"Two champions – one of the racetrack, one of the big screen – are reunited four decades on in a long-unseen documentary." – Screen Daily

In 1971, Formula One racing was one of the most dangerous sports in the world, and Scotsman Jackie Stewart was its champion. Worshipped for his on-track prowess, he garnered a rock star following as he toured the competition circuit. Rosemary's Baby helmer Roman Polanski was among his fans.

Seemingly intrigued by the risk of the sport and by people who voluntarily put themselves in danger, the director trailed the driver over the weekend of the 29th Monaco Grand Prix, under the gaze of filmmaker Frank Simon. The methodology and mechanics of motoring furnished their conversations, but it's their rapport that shines amongst fast and furious footage in glamorous 70s Monaco, with the result part informative racing documentary, part endearing odd-couple buddy movie.

Saved from destruction by Polanski, the barely seen 1972 Berlinale Best Documentary winner, shot in 16mm, has been lovingly restored and re-edited, screening at Cannes with a warm-hearted epilogue.

"A must-see for lovers of the sport … fans will follow it to the last lap." – Screen Daily
