"The film testifies to an artist who [loved] to play games, to give free rein to his imagination and, above all, to celebrate life, even in the presence of death." – FIPRESCI

A group of amateur actors, in the midst of organising a stage play, learn that one of their colleagues is on his deathbed. Against a brightly coloured, highly artificial Yorkshire backdrop, the characters' secrets begin to emerge.

Alain Resnais (Last Year at Marienbad, 1961), who passed away in March at the age of 91, was one of France's most innovative and surprising filmmakers, challenging audiences with his creative cinematic language for well over 60 years. Life of Riley, an adaptation of the Alan Ayckbourn play, is a charming comedy replete with experimental flourishes – a fitting coda to an outstanding career.

Winner of the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
