There goes the parenthood.

Italian director Saverio Costanzo's new film deservedly won Best Actor and Actress awards at the Venice Film Festival for Adam Driver (Girls) and Alba Rohrwacher (who also starred in Costanzo's previous film, The Solitude of Prime Numbers, MIFF 2011; and features in this year's Sworn Virgin), respectively. In this offbeat, increasingly delirious film, they play young newlyweds whose once-charmed New York lifestyle begins to unravel with the troubled arrival of their baby.

Believing her newborn to be an "indigo child" destined to change the future of the world, Rohrwacher's Mina retreats into a deep chasm of paranoia, while Driver's Jude is faced with the terrifying consequences of his wife's inexplicable obsession.

Shot on grainy 16mm and invoking the ghost of Rosemary's Baby, Hungry Hearts explores the darker complexities of parenting.

"A gripping and highly strung psychological drama … a terrific showcase for Rohrwacher, who's spectrally unnerving." – The Telegraph
