Willie McNeive was 19 at the time, and a fervent believer in the necessity, and inevitability, of Irish independence from Britain. So strong was Willie's belief in the cause that he became an active participant in the violent, armed insurgence that ended with the deaths of hundreds of British soldiers, civilians and rebels, but ultimately helped lead to the establishment of an independent Irish state.
Directed by Oscar Raby (The Turning Forest, MIFF 2016), this VR experience is built on McNeive's eyewitness account – a recording of which lay undiscovered for over three decades.
