KING OF PEKING

It's 1998 and struggling film projectionist Big Wong is in danger of losing custody of his son, Little Wong. However, Big Wong spots a unique opportunity with the advent of the DVD boom and together the father-and-son team start covertly recording the films they screen and then re-dubbing them for sale on the counterfeit market. But as the business scales up, so do the pressures, and soon both Wongs will have to reckon with the true cost of the pirate's life.

Australian director Sam Voutas heads up an entirely Chinese production in the screwball dramedy of King of Peking. A warm-hearted love letter to cinema that mixes wry humour with a genuinely touching tale of father-son bonding (or rather misguided attempts thereof), King of Peking is a feel-good film of the highest order that you'll definitely want to see before it gets to DVD.
