Executive produced by Robert Redford, this Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award runner-up reveals the previously untold story behind the greatest group of athletes surfing has ever seen.

In 1992 an oddball group of teenage surfers – including Kelly Slater, Taylor Knox, Shane Dorian and Rob Machado – spent a summer together in Oahu, hunting the world’s best waves and filming the whole thing. The result was a home movie called Momentum and it would change the sport of surfing forever.

In Momentum Generation, filmmakers Jeff and Michael Zimbalist opens the book on this pivotal, wild period in surfing’s history. Cut together from almost 300 kilograms of vintage videotape and featuring unfettered and intimate access to these champion friends and rivals, the Zimbalists have delivered the definitive account of this unique sport’s great coming-of-age.
