After filming Your Face in Taipei’s historic Zhongshan Hall, Tsai Ming-Liang turns his focus to the building’s light.

Zhongshan Hall is more than just the setting for Your Face’s exquisite portraiture; it’s a place of great significance to the director – who began his career selling tickets for the Golden Horse Film Festival, held in the hall – and to Taiwan, as the site where the Japanese forces in the country surrendered at the end of World War II. Tsai returned to the hall following Your Face to film its warm winter light, focusing on its changes and moods throughout the day.
